The 3 years of Mason...

by Jamie
10/5/13

Wow, I can't believe it....Mason is a 3 year-old!!!!

I don't even know where to begin as I look back on the last three years!!!  There have been lots of ups and downs, challenges, struggles, laughs, cries, exhausting days, diapers, spills, clean-ups....and joy with this boy!!!

BIG BOY
Mason is huge!  He is about 42 pounds, wears a size 12 shoe, and mostly 4 or 5 clothes.  He has maintained the 99% in height/weight since he was about 9 months.  Adding to his size is his strong will and impulsivity.  This boy DOES NOT STOP!!  He is on the move all day long!  He loves playing sports, Hot Wheels, and jumping on the trampoline.

BASKETBALL OBSESSION
We moved into this house back in May.  We still have no furniture in the "formal" living room because it is his basketball room!  The only thing in it is a basketball hoop!  My parents got him a pair of Air Jordans for his birthday. He insists on tank tops (which he calls "Attack U" shirts) and basketball shorts almost every day.

WHAT HAS HE RUINED?
The other day, I put together a list of the things in our house that he has ruined:
Nail polish on a couch cushion
2 External hard drives
Carpet in our old house
Doors - he has cracked a door frame and dented the door to Mya's room
Carpet in our current house by writing on it with lipstick (thank heavens for Dawn, I was able to get it out)
Mya's Mobigo - he threw it in the bathtub
Our TV - he has scratched it multiple times with the remote and PS3 controllers
Our rear windshield wiper on the van - yep, he broke it:

He dumps water, bowls of cereal, bowls of pretzels, etc.  I have to keep the vacuum and carpet steamer out all the time. I won't even post the picture of when he took off his pull-up after he pooped and smeared it all over the white carpet.

I'm sure I will look back one day and laugh at all this....maybe......if I can get through it with my sanity!!!!

HAPPY GUY
Aside from all the difficulty, Mason is a very happy boy.  He is extremely social and friendly.  Nobody is a stranger to him.  He loves meeting new friends, giving hugs, and playing with all of Mya's friends (yes, he even puts on dresses and heels!!!).  He asks about going to Athens to the Convo almost every other day.  We can't wait until basketball season to watch the Bobcats!  When I prayed for this boy, God was indeed laughing.  He knew what Mason would be like long before he was born.  And God knew the two people in the world who were capable of parenting him: Jim and me! So the journey continues! Mister, we love you and and are thankful for you!

It's summertime!

By Jamie

I don't post many updates to this blog anymore, but as Mason is growing and changing, I wanted to make sure to document some of the positives and some of the struggles we're going through!!!

Mason is very physical, impulsive, non-stop, active, and LOUD!!!  He will often dump bowls of food or snacks, run and push sissy, dump toys, etc.  He has lots of energy and drains most of my energy each day!! I struggle with discipline and the right and wrong way to discipline, as I often feel nothing works.  I'm sure this is just a phase....a very difficult one! It will pass!!

On the positive, he is very happy, outgoing, friendly, and compassionate.  He loves meeting kids, and he especially loves playing with the boys and roughing around.  His number one obsession is still basketball!!  He carries a mini basketball with him everywhere!  He even insists on wearing a basketball shirt each and every day!  This is no joke: he will throw a screaming temper tantrum if I don't allow him to wear his favorite shirt from the day before!!!  So instead of him wearing all the clothes that were given to us by friends, I had to go purchase him some muscle shirts and basketball shorts!  Luckily, he has about 5 or 6 tops that he will agree to wear, so I don't have to launder the same outfit every day like I was doing in the beginning!!!

We have a fabulous screened-in porch in the new house, so he plays very well on his own with his cars and trucks on the road rugs we keep out there.  However, he does not share well, and we have a long way to go on that before school starts in September.

I try not to get discouraged with him.  He is only 2 1/2 and should not be treated like a 4 year old, even though he often is because he's so big!!!!  Potty training was going great until we moved, then I dropped the ball!  We're trying again now, but it's not an urgency for us right now.  The move was a huge adjustment for the kids, so we're taking things slowly!!!!

His speech is getting better.  He is a little difficult to understand at times, but speaks in full sentences and is very expressive when he talks (just like sissy!!).  I have realized that I can't compare his overall speech to Mya or any other kid though.  I'm sure he is right on track and his developmental milestones are normal.  He impressed us by singing the Star Spangled Banner with Mya a few weeks back!!  :)

Oh we love you, Mister!  Good times and bad, you are the boy that we prayed for, and are blessed to have you!!! :)  :)

Mason is 2 1/2!!!!

Wow! I can't believe Mason is 2 1/2!!! The last 6 months have been both challenging and exciting with this very big boy!! He is still so kind and loving and usually happy! He has taken a new LOVE for basketball! I should say obsession!!!! He sleeps with a mini basketball and watches YouTube videos of the Ohio basketball team!
On the other hand, he throws temper tantrums, is a little too rough with sissy, and still gets out of his carseat once in a while! He's in a Jumpin Jellybeans class once a week and each class he throws a fit when he has to take off his shoes! He also drools a lot!!!!
He talks so much better now and is finally enjoying books. He's doing the same things Mya used to do: he memorizes the books we read him! He now wears a 4T shirt and 3 or 4t pants. He's just a big boy!

We have some changes coming in our life! We decided to sell our house! We got an offer the first day it was on the market! We then found a house we love and it's only 5 miles from where we are now! We have some busy months ahead as we pack up and move, but we are very excited! God is so good and we thank Him for taking care of us in all the little and big things!! :)

Baby Doll Crib

By Sarah

Our Great-Grandpa made this baby doll crib for our Mom when she was 5 in 1958!  Mom recently gave the cribs to Jamie and Me.

How precious is this??  Reesie climbed up in it and fell asleep!!!
